Laura is a 26 year old waitress who has been reviewed seven times in the last nine months with genital ulcers. Each time she has taken Aciclovir with good response. Laura attends the GP surgery today as she has again developed multiple painful ulcers in a similar distribution as before (left side of her vulva). Laura is very distressed and reports that she has been diligent with self-care measures including salt washes once a day and loose clothing. She would like to take something to prevent these episodes from occurring. She is otherwise well and is not currently sexually active.
