Harry is 4 years old and is brought in by his worried father. He has a 2 day history of cough and prior to this had a runny nose and suspected conjunctivitis in the previous week. His father thought it was just another common cold given that he has started school recently. However, the cough is now happening in bursts and followed by vomiting. His sleep bas been disrupted as the cough is worse at night. He had a temperature of 37.6 °C this morning and felt hot yesterday evening also.

There is no rash or drowsiness and his observations today are normal. He has no significant past medical history and no known drug allergies. On examination his chest is clear and there are no signs of intercostal recession.

Based on the likely diagnosis, which of the following statements would be most appropriate regarding Harry’s management?
