Lara brings her 5 year old son Toby to the GP as she is concerned that he does not open his bowels regularly. She admits he has a poor diet and drinks little fluids whilst at school. He often strains and passes hard stools and until today had not opened his bowels in 5 days. Today he has soiled his underwear which has prompted her to make the appointment.
On examination of his abdomen, there is a palpable faecal mass. His observations are normal.
