Mrs Smith is a 70 year old lady who presents with a 5 month history of weight loss and diarrhoea. She has already been investigated with an urgent upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and the results for these were normal. She attributes the weight loss to feeling low with little appetite since her husband passed away earlier in the year, although admits she has increased her calorie intake but continues to lose weight. Diarrhoea has continued although she denies any blood in her stool, abdominal pain, or jaundice. Abdominal examination today is normal.
