Infectious Diseases, Lyme Disease, SBA

Tom is a four year old boy who you saw four days ago with erythema migrans which developed after a camping holiday in the Peak district. You made a clinical diagnosis of Lyme disease and gave him a prescription for Amoxicillin 250mg TDS. His mother Rachel has brought him back as she is finding it very difficult to administer the medication. Tom has severe learning difficulties and either gets very aggressive or upset when his mother tries to give him the medication. She is concerned that she won’t be able to continue giving this for 14 days so would like an alternative. Which of the following would be the best course of action, select all that apply:

  1. Continue Amoxicillin and explain she will have to preserve
  2. Switch to Cefuroxime
  3. Switch to co-amoxiclav
  4. Switch to doxycycline
  5. Switch to bismacine
