Simran is 9 years old and attends with her father who is concerned about a rash on her arms, legs and torso. It initially started 2 days ago on her torso and they had thought it must have been an allergic rash to new washing powder. However she has also been feverish and complained of a sore throat.
On examination today she has a fever of 38°C and her tonsils are red and oedematous. You observe a coarse textured maculopapular rash on her neck, trunk, arms and legs. There is no headache or neck stiffness and systems examination is otherwise normal.
Given her likely diagnosis, what would be the most appropriate advice in terms of when she could return to school?
