Mrs Matthews is a 33 year old lady who saw your colleague 3 days ago with a painful right index finger. She is 30 weeks pregnant and otherwise well. She was diagnosed with Paronychia and commenced on Erythromycin given her Penicillin allergy. She is concerned as her symptoms are ongoing and the finger looks much the same with a well circumscribed area of erythema and swelling proximal to the 2nd fingernail base. She remains systemically well and although the area is tender to touch there is no obvious collection.
