Jenny is 25 years old and presents with pain in her left calf. She states that it began yesterday while she was on the treadmill at the gym. At first she thought it was a cramp. She is concerned at it is still hurting today and has noticed that her calf is swollen. The pain is worse when she walks on it and is alleviated a little with rest. On examination the left calf measures 40cm circumference, and the right calf is 38cm. The left calf is tender to touch along the deep venous system and there are no collateral veins or pitting oedema. There is no other past medical history and she is normally very active. She recently returned from Australia 2 weeks ago. Her medication includes Rigevidon.
