Zaneta is a 28 year old female who is 35 weeks pregnant into her first pregnancy. So far, her pregnancy has been uncomplicated and she is having midwife led care. Zaneta has booked an appointment to see you today as she has been getting constipated recently. She mentioned it at one of her midwife appointments, and was advised to drink more fluids, amend her diet and was prescribed Ispaghula husk. She did get some improvement at first but over the last two weeks her stool has become very hard. She is now only opening her bowels every five days (pre-pregnancy she opened her bowels daily). Zaneta has not noticed any blood in her stool and she is eating and drinking as normal.
