Daniel is 13 years old and his mother has been asked to bring him to see the GP after it was noticed that she has requested 2 Salbutamol inhalers for him in the last month. He was diagnosed with Asthma at his previous practice and mum says he has always just had to use Salbutamol mainly when he gets a bad cold. Daniel is in good health otherwise and on no other regular medications. She says he has had to use his inhaler several times a week after sport over the last school term and has night time symptoms once a week. Respiratory examination and observations are normal today.

What is the single most appropriate next step in his management?
