Laura is a 26 year old waitress who you have seen seven times in the last nine months with genital ulcers. Each time she has taken Aciclovir with good response. Laura has come to see you today as she has again developed multiple painful ulcers in a similar distribution as before (left side of her vulva). Laura is very distressed and reports that she has been diligent with self-care measures including salt washes once a day and loose clothing. She is frustrated now and would like to take something to prevent these episodes from occurring. She is otherwise fit and well, does not smoke or drink any alcohol and is not currently sexually active.
