A 38 year old female presents to the GP complaining of ongoing heavy periods for the past two years. Her cycles are 31 days long and she bleeds for 7 days, which is very heavy during the first 4 days requiring her to change sanitary towels up to 6 times in the day. She denies any intermenstrual bleeding or post coital bleeding and has had normal up to date smear tests. Abdominal and pelvic examinations are unremarkable. Blood tests including thyroid function tests and full blood count are normal.
